1. Name
Madison Hemric
2. Major/Class
I am a Junior, Business Studies major with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies.
3. Why did you choose that major?
I like that it allows me to really fit my degree to my personal goals. I am able to incorporate WGS into my major studies and it really makes my time at UNCG feel very personalized.
4. How did you hear about Her Campus?
My co-CC Hannah actually introduced me to Her Campus. She was looking for an organization on campus to join but wasn’t able to find one that felt like the right fit. So she started doing research and found Her Campus and came to me with the idea to start a chapter at UNCG to create a place for students to feel free to be themselves, speak their minds, and have fun.
5. What made you want to start a chapter here at UNCG? What was that process like?
When Hannah came to me I was starting to want to get more involved on campus myself. I really loved the idea of an outlet for students as well as having a low-stress way to get involved at UNCG. To become an active chapter we first went through an application process for Her Campus and then once we were approved by HC we had to be approved to be an official UNCG student organization. It was a bit stressful since Hannah and I were new to the process but we got it handled, and it was definitely worth it.
6. How has the experience been so far? Is it hard? Easy? Rewarding?
So far I have loved it. I am sometimes an easily stressed person when it comes to meeting deadlines. Because of this I have learned a lot about how to manage my time and stress as a result of working with Her Campus. But don’t get me wrong, there are also days where I am so proud of how far we have come and excited about where we are going. HC provieds a lot of support and our team is so great so no matter how stressed I get, I am always happy being a part of the HC UNCG team. On top of the wonderful team and support, I get to write too! Each week I write I get to take some time to think about something that I want to think about that isn’t Marketing or Economics or International Business. So while I wouldn’t say it’s easy, Her Campus is definitely rewarding and absolutely inhances my college experience.
7. What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a Her Campus chapter at their own campus?
I would say definitely go for it! It may seem like way too much to do but I promise you can make it happen. I would suggest to find someone to get it started with you and once your team is formed begin working toward delegation of tasks. If you can keep things organized it makes everything 300 times easier!
