College Through The Small Screen: Brittany Lewis

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Name: Brittany Lewis

Major: Journalism

Year in School: Freshman

Hometown: Lakeland, Florida

Brittany Lewis is a freshman and Polk County native who’s already making a name for herself at the University of Florida. Brittany had a typical start to YouTube with a Room Tour and College Dorm Haul, but it was her College Move-In video that shot her channel to popularity. While on campus, Lewis has continued her channel throughout her time at school, while also depicting her life as part of the Delta Gamma sorority. Her Campus UFL decided to ask Brittany some questions about her budding YouTube career.

Her Campus UFL (HC): What made you decide to create a YouTube Channel?

Brittany Lewis (BL): I have always loved video editing, and I also used to be very into theatre. I love acting and performing and connecting with people and have never been very camera-shy. I always wanted to start a channel, but I didn’t know what I would talk about! As I got older, I developed a passion for makeup, beauty and fashion. I started out with simple vlogs of my friends and I, a couple makeup tutorials and basically just anything about my life or a topic I wanted to talk about. I decided to start my channel last summer because I was too scared to have a YouTube channel in high school—people would have made fun of me even more.

HC: Do you plan to continue it throughout your collegiate career?

BL: Yes, I plan on continuing YouTube throughout my collegiate career. It is such a fun and creative outlet for me! People around campus already jokingly call me “YouTube girl.” Even though time management is a little tricky, I want to keep it up!

HC: Has your time on campus influenced the direction you want to take with your YouTube? Vice Versa, did your involvement on YouTube affect the direction you wanted to take once on the college campus?

BL: My channel got bigger as I vlogged about my college and sorority experiences, and those are my most popular types of videos. I love making makeup and fashion videos, too, but I am centered around my current lifestyle, which is my college and sorority.

HC: What drew you toward the sorority that you are involved in? What has been your favorite moment during your time in the sorority?

BL: I chose my sorority because they felt the most real and chill to me. I am bad at faking things, and I wanted to be with a group of girls that were completely true to themselves and passionate about bettering themselves. The girls in my sorority are so driven and inspiring, and they push me to be the best I can be. My favorite moments in my sorority are when something goes wrong, and I am upset, (but) I have so many girls backing me up and taking care of me or bringing ice cream to my apartment.

HC: Is there anything you have learned so far in your freshman semester that you feel would benefit general or journalism students?

BL: I think being ambitious and learning to take risks and stepping out of your comfort zone is a good lesson for all students. I would not be where I am at UF and with my YouTube channel without doing those things.
