One of the best perks about leaving home for college is that you get to, well, leave home. No more parent-dictated curfews, no more constant check-ups…just total freedom and control over how your life goes.
Well, most of the time.
Keeping in touch with your mom regularly can often be pretty rewarding, especially since you get plenty of life tips and the chance to watch your own relationship evolve.
But…sometimes, it’s a little easy to get carried away, and if you’re anything like me, then there’s a chance that you spend just a little too much time chatting with your mom. (Although, let’s be honest, is there really such a thing?)
Think this might be you? Here are a few signs…
1. She Sends You Reminders of Your Friends’ Birthdays
Here you were, in the middle of the “second draft” of your final essay, when you get a text from your mom asking what you got for your classmate’s birthday. You can’t quite remember when you told her the date, but you’re not surprised she knows at all. Not really.
2. You Send Her Your Cover Letters for Feedback
Has she needed to write her own cover letter in the past several years? Possibly not—but there’s no way you’re not having her take a look at it, even if the advice she gives turns out to be terrible.
3. You Get Embarrassed When Texts Meant For Your Mom Go To Your Friends
Best friend: “Wait, you really broke up with him?”
You: “Whoops, sorry, that text was meant for my mom. Haha, just ignore that.”
4. She Keeps You Updated on Her Favorite Shows
Maybe you don’t even watch the same shows as her (although, let’s be honest, if you’re reading this article, there’s a good chance you do), but when a new season is released on Netflix, or the next episode airs, she’s the absolute first to let you know about it.
5. She Knows More About The School Professors Than You Do
That feel when you’re signing up for new classes, unsure of which course to take and which professors to choose…when lo and behold, your mom tells you not to take that one—they had a super low rating on Rate My Professors.
6. She Starts Sending You Memes
It started off innocently enough, sending her an old Facebook meme or picture you saw about moms and daughters that made you snigger because it was so true. But now it’s become such a habit that the tables have turned.
7. You Ask Her for Suggestions for a Listicle You’re Writing about Moms and Daughters
