When we discovered Princess Diaries 3 was in the works last April, it seemed like our childhood dreams were coming true. Unfortunately, the passing of the beloved director of the films, Garry Marshall, over the summer put those plans on hold temporarily.
Despite the tragic circumstances, it looks like we’ll be returning to Genovia sooner than we anticipated. In an interview with BuzzFeed, Julie Andrews revealed that production on the film may soon move forward.
“There’s talk about it,” she said. “And [Anne Hathaway]’s very keen to do it. I would very willingly and happily do it.”
According to Andrews, the recent passing of Marshall motivated them to make the movie as a tribute to the late director. “I think we might do it in honor of him,” Julie explained. “Annie had an idea that she wanted to pursue about it, and I’m all for it.”
So now that we have confirmation from Andrews, all we’re waiting for is the go-ahead from Anne Hathaway and Chris Pine. To their credit, the pair did express interest before Marshall’s untimely death, so hopefully they’re still willing.
If there’s anyone who can unify the cast and crew amidst unfortunate circumstances, it’s Queen Clarisse Renaldi.
