Last-Minute Spring Break Trips

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Winona chapter.

Spring break is only days away and I’m sure you’re all excited for it! Whether you’re a freshman or senior, it’s always good to be able to take a week for yourself and just relax. Some people may assume that just because you’re in college you always go somewhere for spring break, which is not true. My freshman and sophomore year I stayed home and worked, but this year I am lucky enough to go to Florida. If you and your S/O or your friends want to go somewhere for spring break and don’t have the funds, then look no further because I have some awesome getaways that won’t break the bank!

Road Trip

The summer before my freshman year of college my family and some friends of ours went on a road trip to South Dakota, and let me tell you, it was a blast! A road trip to anywhere can be fun, especially when you find historical landmarks, national parks, and popular tourist attractions to drive to and stop at. Some places I would recommend for my fellow Minnesotans are South Dakota, Chicago, or even taking time away from civilization and exploring the boundary waters.

Wisconsin Dells

I have so many memories at this place; I absolutely love it there! From the Twin Cities, Wisconsin Dells is only about three hours away, and it’s definitely worth the drive. The “Waterpark Capital of the World” has much more to offer than just the vast number of waterparks. Downtown Wisconsin Dells has more shops than you can imagine, and they also have scenic tours, breweries and wineries, spas, and museums. If you would rather spend your time at the waterparks there are exactly 20 places you could stay, the most popular (and most fun) being the Wilderness. I would recommend taking a look at the Wisconsin Dells website because there are usually deals that you can take part in. There is literally something here for everyone of every age.

Chicago

I visited Chicago for spring break a few years ago with my mom, sister and grandma and we had so much fun! Chicago is a great destination if you’re just looking to get away for a few days. You can either fly or drive there. Flying would be more ideal just because you avoid the toll bridges, but driving is okay too. You can always make stops along the way! Chicago has something for everyone: Navy Pier, Millennium Park, Shedd Aquarium (I highly recommend), Field Museum of Natural History, Magnificent Mile and many more. The most ideal time to visit the Windy City is April through October as lots of events take place during this time frame; however, if you plan on going during your spring break, there will still be plenty of things to do and sights to see. Be sure to plan and pack accordingly.

Spring break is all about relaxing and not having to worry about school. If you have nothing planned for spring break, then seriously consider grabbing your friends or your S/O and taking a spur-of-the-moment trip to one of these places, or somewhere else of your choosing! Spring break does not have to be expensive; if you look carefully and plan wisely, you will find something that is fun and affordable.

I love exploring the outdoors, writing, whales, and have a major sweet tooth for cheesecake! Volleyball and hockey are my favorite sports to play and watch. When it comes to writing, I love it. I truly enjoy being able to write articles and stories about topics people would enjoy reading.
