Despite winter finally being on its way out (although it doesn’t feel like it when you’re going to your 9am lectures), it’s left behind dry skin and extremely dry lips. I haven’t been able to wear a matte liquid lipstick for weeks and we all know how much of a disaster that is. To try to combat this, I’ve been reaching for old favourite lip balms, as well as trying new ones, in order to share with you my top 5 lip balms that actually work.
Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm – £12
This is a new discovery for me, and despite the name, it’s actually an amazing lip balm. It was first created to relieve breastfeeding mothers of their sore nipples, but has since been rebranded as an intensely hydrating, thick lip balm. It is fairly pricey, but you get 15ml of product and you need a tiny bit – a little goes a long way. It’s one I slather on overnight in order to wake up to glossy, smooth lips.
Nuxe Reve de Miel – £9.50
The quality of the lip balm itself matches the quality of the packaging . This lipbalm looks so fancy sat on my bedside table in its glass jar. By the French skincare brand Nuxe, this thick lip balm is another one that I use overnight more than during the day. I think this is mainly because it’s in a pot so isn’t the most hygienic for on the go, but it does come in a stick form too. It has a lovely citrus-honey smell and really does the job – I can always still feel it on my lips the next morning.
Blistex MedPlus Repairing Lip Balm – £2.30
One of the cheapest but best lip balms I’ve used is this one from Blistex. It has SPF15 which is great and it contains menthol which is meant to ‘soothe and cool’. It has quite a strong smell that may bother some people, but I quite like it. It does the job well and leaves a nice gloss to the lips; my only qualm is that, again, it is in a pot, making it not the best for use out and about.
Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Lip Balm, Pomegranate – £3.69
This is an old favourite of mine and I always have one knocking around at the bottom of my bags. Burt’s Bees do amazing skincare, and their lip balms are no exception; they come in so many flavours but this one is my favourite. It smells amazing and has a red tint to it, leaving a slight pink tone on my lips after use. It’s great for on the go and leaves my lips feeling soft and hydrated.
Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Original Ultra Moisturizing Lip Balm – £1.99
The cheapest of the bunch, this cocoa butter infused lip balm leaves my lips feeling smooth and also smells amazing. It’s simple, no-fuss and also has an SPF of 15, which is an added bonus, meaning I mainly use this during the day.
