10 Things Only Morning People Will Understand

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cornell chapter.

Being a morning person is amazing! Here are a few things only people who love getting up at 7 AM will understand.

1. You wake up when the sun comes up

You love the morning, which means as soon as the sun begins to peek over the horizon, you’re woken up. On the plus side, this means you never actually need to use an alarm clock.

2. If you wake up at 9, you feel like you’ve wasted the whole day

You know that people sometimes don’t wake up until 10 AM or even as late as 12 PM (how do they do this?), but you can’t do it. Sleeping in for you is sleeping past 8 AM. The best hours of the day are the morning hours!

3. You’re the only person disappointed by a lack of 8 AM classes in your schedule

When planning your schedule, the first thing you look for is how early you can get all your classes in. If none of your classes offer an 8 AM time slot, you’re upset for the rest of the semester. By now, you’re used to walking into practically empty classrooms, but you never have to worry about 8 AM classes filling up too quickly during enrollment period!

4. You don’t understand why people drink coffee

You’re so full of vim and vigor in the morning, why would you ever need more energy? The only time you might need a cup of coffee is when you’re friends are trying to convince you to go out past 9 PM.

5. Evening prelims are THE WORST

Why do they hold prelims at your bedtime? By 7:30, you’re usually snuggled up in bed watching Netflix. You’re the only person you know who would rather they held prelims at 7:30 AM instead of 7:30 PM and who hopes your final exam is scheduled for 9 AM.

6. You lie about your bedtime A LOT

“What time do you go to bed?” Uh, what’s normal, midnight? You know by now not to reveal to anyone that you actually hit the sack by 10 PM every night and have probably been in your pyjamas since 8:30 PM.

7. You plan on going to lots of events but it never pans out

You get so excited to read there’s a free concert on Saturday night, only to find out it starts at 9 PM. Even so, you plan on going, but by early that night you realize you’re never going to be able to stay awake long enough to enjoy the event.

8. You never have to worry about finding an empty laundry machine

When you get up at 8 AM on the weekends, it’s not hard to find a washing machine to use. In fact, you have your pick of a lot of things when you get up early, from study spots to the best seats on the bus.

9. Seeing the end of an awards show = impossible

Or any other TV show that goes past 10 PM for that matter. You spend many of your morning hours trying to avoid spoilers from last night’s episode of The Bachelor.

10. You’ve seen more sunrises than sunsets

I mean, the sun sets really late during the summer, right? And since you always wake up at the crack of dawn, you’ve enjoyed your fair share of sunrises. Sunrises are prettier than sunsets anyway.

Embrace your inner morning person! You’re part of an exclusive group of people for whom sunlight is the only caffeine you need.
