6 Ways to Effectively Use Your Study Breaks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Xavier chapter.

Winter break has come and gone, and that means it’s back to the daily grind of homework, tests and dreaded group projects.  We are only a few weeks into the semester at Xavier and already it feels like we are drowning in due dates.  While some nights you might have to bunker down in the library for hours on end, it is good to give yourself a break to clear your head and let all that knowledge set in.  No we don’t mean binge watch an entire season of Gilmore Girls on Netflix (although we love a good Netflix binge).  Check out these six effective study break tips that let you put down the textbooks but still feel productive!

  1. Clean your room: Whether it is making your bed, tidying up around the room, or even putting away laundry, it can be an effective and productive way to take a study break!

  2. Have a dance party with your friends: Letting off some steam with some good music and some good friends can be a great way to use a study break!

  3. Exercise: Go hit the gym, or even workout in your room. Working your body is just as important as working your brain!

  4. Set a Timer: When taking a study break, make sure to set a timer to ensure that you are using your study break effectively and you’re not away from your work for too long.

  5. Take a Power Nap: We all love to take naps, but sometimes they can be a little bit too long when it comes to finals time. Set a timer for a quick 20 minute to 30 minute nap so that you can feel a little bit more refreshed!

  6. Color: Coloring is not just for kids, it is for everyone! It will give your brain something creative to focus on for a little bit, and you can even get a pretty picture from it as well.
