Taqueria Arturo has only been open for two weeks in the Plateau, but its promise is evident. Located on the somewhat-cursed Rue Prince Arthur, the city has been investing in the walking street to bring more tourism, to what should be a booming restaurant scene. With an understated entrance, but vibrant interior and tasty menu, hopefully Taqueria Arthuro’s arrival onto the scene indicates more stability in an area with a high restaurant mortality rate.
From margaritas to Mexican Coca-Cola with real sugar cane, the Mexican fusion menu offers a typical cocktail and beer selection. However, the food options are unique and unusual. The taco and burrito options range from Asian fusion to more classical Mexican, with kimchee and other Korean staples adding a big kick. Even the chips and salsa is atypical – not to mention only $3.50!
Considering the extremely reasonable prices, I opted to try three of the tacos, while my boyfriend went for the barbacoa brisket burrito with black beans, cilantro, rice, pico de gallo, and avocado. From left to right:Â I enjoyed the pork belly taco with pickled red onions and an arbol chili reduction;Â the gochjujang ribeye taco with kimchee and green onion;Â as well as the barbacoa smoked brisket taco.
My favourite taco had to be the classic barbacoa, especially after I added spicy salsa. The pickled red onions are to die for. The pork belly was also delicious, but next time I’d like to try the peking duck and baja fish tacos to change it up. The queso fundido and ahi tuna appetizers also look promising.Â
The only thing Taqueria Arturo is missing from their menu is dessert, but after 3 tacos and chips, dessert didn’t even seem plausible. Taqueria Arturo is the place to go when you’re craving Mexican comfort food, but desire something a little bit different. I’ll be back to try out more of their menu and I honestly hope they are a successful addition to the Plateau’s restaurant scene.Â
