Don’t Give Up on Those New Year’s Resolutions

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Alabama chapter.

How are those New Year’s resolutions going? If you’re anything like me, your New Year’s resolutions are long over. I’m here to tell you that it’s okay. Resolutions are a great way to start your year off right and develop some good habits that will hopefully positively impact your life. Start going to the gym, eating better, listening more than you talk. Whatever it may be, it’s not meant to be easy. The point is to change something in your life to ultimately better yourself. Let’s be honest, most people end up giving up on their resolutions before spring time comes around. Resolutions are hard, but they’re meant to be hard – that’s why you have a year to do them. Good habits take time, and more often take more than one try to solidify.

It doesn’t always have to be that way, though. These resolutions will take time and time again to conquer. If they were so easy, they wouldn’t be designated as resolutions. There may be days you don’t feel like going to the gym. It’s okay. Go tomorrow and be persistent. Keep at it. If you reached big and took on a huge resolution, it might be worth breaking it down. Consider creating month-by-month goals that will ultimately help you reach your resolution. That way, it’s more doable and you can accomplish smaller goals that will motivate you to keep going.

With all of this being said, there’s no reason to wait until New Year’s to better yourself. If you’re reading this January 31 or June 27, do it now. What’s stopping you?
