After all the minutes of her reassuring words,Â
why today
did you decide they were still stable and supportiveÂ
like a concrete wall that held your spine still
as you tiptoed across a tightrope
after all the weeks of growing a winding dark beard
you, attempting to appear as a man who the world should fear
why todayÂ
do you still crumble at her knees, and in her loving arms
after all the months of holding her hand
why today
did you decide you weren’t bored of the mold you both had seemingly created with time.
What happened over the years that continues to leave you in awe
this feeling it seems awfully
repetitive
does not one grow tired of repetition
why do we write novels about one simple feeling
why do we create movies about one simple feeling
why does the world turn off of one, ever simple, feeling
there is so much more to write aboutÂ
the feeling in amusement parks as your stomach churns inwards
the empowerment you feel after conquering what felt unconquerableÂ
there are mysteries and history and feelings that aren’t as cliche
there are sheer steep edges on the map of the world, thirsting, begging, and awaiting your arrival
and here you are
on this stale couch, in a tiny secluded coffee shop
there is so much more to write about
and here I am,
writing about youÂ
it is moments like these that make me believe that it must be more than a chemical reaction
or perhaps it is the fact that it has always been
no more than atomsÂ
I don’t know why you aren’t bored of this emotion
I don’t know why the roots of you chose to grow together rather than on your own
I don’t think I will ever know
and I don’t plan to
because out of all the years of her kisses stained on your forehead,Â
like white ink tattoos of reassuranceÂ
today
you decided they were still comfort to you,Â
like chicken noodle soup on a cold day,Â
today
you decided that her affection was still warm and healing
because it is still warm
more than warmÂ
there is still a fireÂ
between the both of your fingers tainted with storiesÂ
that sparked years ago and continues toÂ
dance in the amber of today
you have defied the system, the general population of human beings telling you that
love has a due date
love does not have a due dateÂ
because the way your eyes meet are living proofÂ
you two, statistics in the population of an entire world
you two side platters in one of thousands of coffee shops
have defied the systemÂ
place on a billboard, on a skyscraper, on a projector in space
you have loved deeper than science told you you could
simple
atoms in love
through and through and through
Â
