Questionable TV is everywhere these days, but A&E has hit a new low in its programming. Its newest docuseries, Generation KKK, provides an inside look at people within KKK-associated families who are trying to leave the society. Seeing as the last time the KKK was talked about this much was when its newspaper endorsed Donald Trump for president, people are understandably angry about the series, and Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo is among them.
Pompeo made her disgust known through a series of tweets, shaming A&E for “giving ignorance a platform” and asking for a boycott of the network.
Hey I have an idea…why don’t we all never watch ANYTHING on A&E again who’s with me????

Pompeo also pointed out the bad timing of the series and how allowing such ignorance to rise ultimately led to Trump’s presidential win. Obviously, the show premiering on Jan. 10, just over a week before Trump’s inauguration, isn’t a great sign.
The timing of this show angers me the most they are capitalizing on a disgusting wave that Trump started and media is normalizing NOT OK

The Twitter account of A&E eventually noticed the actress’s remarks and clarified that the show’s goal is to highlight those wanting to leave the KKK. Pompeo, of course, fired back to this right away.
Okay if that is what it is PLEASE promote it as such…PLEASE https://t.co/q4j2EWaxyq

She’s not the only one annoyed by the show. When the New York Times‘ Twitter promoted its review of the series, readers had a lot to say.
While the public outrage hasn’t seemed to delay or cancel A&E’s plans to run the series, Pompeo had an awesome idea that I’m happy to back up any day.
maybe @AETV you should just run episodes of @GreysABC instead… we are smarter more compassionate and oh yeah way better looking

Amen to that, girl.
