I think everyone can agree that there’s nothing worse than feeling completely overwhelmed due to homework, extracurricular activities, and the pressure to do well in college. Stracne (stress acne), indigestion, having a rapid pulse, and trouble sleeping are all common side effects of stress. However, most people seem to ignore how stress may affect their social lives. When we’re stressed, we unintentionally isolate ourselves from those who care about us the most. Here are some ways to avoid complete isolation when you feel stressed:
Call your best friend from home or your mom. Nothing beats calling your best friend from home or your mom when you feel stressed. You can vent to them about any problems you’re experiencing on campus and they can give you a fresh perspective on how to solve your problems! Calling close friends or family from home will remind you that you can do anything and that this feeling will pass.
Set time aside for friends. Setting time aside for friends in your hectic schedule might sound like a waste of time, but trust me it isn’t! I know that you feel like you need to focus all of your time on school, but making time for friends has two benefits: you have time to unwind and it will motivate you to get your work done before you see them!
Take a day trip off campus. Giving yourself a break off campus will make sure that you genuinely enjoy your time away from your work, without the temptation of resuming it. I’m not telling you to procrastinate (that’ll only make you feel worse), but you definitely need a break once in a while.
Don’t forget to make time for yourself! Making “me time” often falls through the cracks at college. Setting time aside for yourself and not focusing on work will leave you refreshed and calm you down.
