3 Tips to Maintain a Healthy Long Distance Relationship

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tampa chapter.

Having a long distance relationship can be a hard task, and really stressful. People who have been in long distance relationships know very well how difficult it is to be far away from your significant other. Long distance relationships require lots of love and patience as well, especially when the couple can´t see each other very often. What most people don´t understand is that also these types of relationships can be healthy and successful, that is the reason why today I am going to give you three tips on how to maintain a healthy relationship while being far from each other.

Tip Number 1: Don´t Over Think!

It is very common in a long distance relationship to text each other very often. As you are far away from each other, texting is the only way to keep up with what your significant other is doing every day. Communicating often with your boyfriend/girlfriend on a daily basis can strengthen your relationship, but remember to be calm if your partner stops responding in a given situation. People usually freak out when the other person stops responding all of a sudden and they start thinking about what might happened. My recommendation in these types of situations is to stay calm and don´t over think as it won´t help you in any way, and it most probably will just make things worst. You might be thinking that your significant other is cheating on you, while the real reason why he/she is not answering is because they just fell asleep.

Tip Number 2: FaceTime Is Your New Best Friend!

Let´s be honest! How many people actually use FaceTime very often? Not many people, right? These days is just easier to either call someone or text someone, we don´t really spend much time video calling someone, unless we need to talk about something serious with our parents. Long distance relationships can only work out if both parts commit to FaceTime each other every day. Given the fact that the couple is 4,410.93 miles away from each other, Facetime is the only solution. If you have a break in between your classes or you just came back from work, Face Timing your significant other is the best way to build a strong and healthy relationship. These days it is so easy to maintain a long distance relationship because of all the technology we possess. There is nothing better than getting home after a long day at work or school and just calling your baby and see his/her face.

Tip Number 3: Trust Each Other!

Jealousy is the worst alloy a person can have while being in a relationship. Remember that trust is crucial in any type of relationship. Jealousy is the main cause of many relationships gone wrong. Don´t forget that your significant other has a life as well and no matter how far he/she is or how much you miss them, you need to trust them. Without trust no relationship can move forward. Don´t try to track every single movement your partner does because it is an unhealthy habit. If you don´t trust your significant other, there is no way in the world that you can reach success while being in a long distance relationship. Keep in mind that you are not the only one who is packed with homework. Respect your partner´s time if he/she also has work do. Everyone needs some space from time to time. It doesn´t mean that your partner will take that free time to cheat on you. Trusting your partner will make your life so much easier and it will bring happiness to your everyday life.
