Imani Craig. A twenty-one-year-old junior majoring in Mass Communications here at USFSP with a concentration in Journalism and Media Studies. Imani is not originally a Florida native. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; but her family relocated to sunny Vero beach when she was only two. Imani moved to Saint Petersburg from Vero Beach, where she attended high school and later received her Associate of Arts Degree from Indian River State College. She made the decision to take a semester off from school before transferring to USFSP.
When it came time to decide what university she would be attending in the Fall of 2016, her first option was the University of Central Florida in Orlando, but after taking a campus tour, she decided the college didn’t have the “wow” factor she was looking for. She knew she ultimately preferred a smaller campus. A family friend then suggested she check out USFSP. When she did, she fell in love.
“When I toured this school, I got an instant sense of belonging,” says Imani.
The small campus, friendly community, and amazing journalism department made the decision more than easy for her.
When not working on her school work, she enjoys watching reality television and keeping up with anything related to pop culture and entertainment. The Her Campus team here at USFSP has also had the grand pleasure of working alongside Imani for the first time during the Fall 2016 semester. She first joined the team as a campus correspondent covering events such as the 2016 Saint Petersburg Art and Fashion Show and has now moved her way up to Marketing & Publicity Director as well as handling the Facebook content for the USFSP chapter of Her Campus.

Imani says, “I would love to work in the entertainment industry through social media. I also find that I am not that interested in newspaper reporting but would rather work in T.V. production.”
With her first semester at USFSP coming to a close, Imani looks forward to begin taking core classes within the journalism department in Spring 2017.
