Having just co-written and released the song “Sweetness,” as well as been announced the host and DJ for the upcoming show “Alive at Las” on December 30th at Las Retro Bar & Lounge in Toronto, Savanna has come a long way from singing in the choir at age six.  Involvement in the arts and entertainment industry in nothing new to twenty-year-old Torontonian, Savanna Lee. From recording her own music, to managing an artist, to learning music production, she is definitely not your average university student.
Rocking a comfy chic turtleneck beneath an oversized denim jacket, Savanna’s presence is cool and intriguing. Her smile is sweet and genuine, reaching all the way to her eyes, lit and humble, as she talks about her experiences in the realm of music. At a very young age, singing in the choir, she fell in love with music, and with this infatuation, has built herself to be a multidimensional character within the industry, specializing in vocal work and music production, as well as event DJing and promotion.
The true beginning of her journey and desire to make her own music began just a year ago, headphones in, waiting at a London transit bus stop. Listening to a song, she began to create her own lyrics and then a verse. Later that day, upon returning home from school, she opened her laptop and recorded her first freestyle with a melody. After posting her freestyle on social media, the positive reaction from her peers steered Savanna to her creative path in writing and producing her own music. Her musical style reflects that of Majid Jordan, her favourite musical group right now, exhibiting a mix of disco, electronic and R&B sounds.
Although beginning her journey in her hometown of Toronto, which she visits regularly, her work is not solely relevant in Toronto, but has expanded to London, Ontario, as she lives here during  the school year. Majoring in Media, Information, & Technoculture at Western, she has used her course load and choice of electives to take classes that reflect her passion, such as “Introduction to Popular Music Studies.”  She is active in not only the musical scene, but the fashion scene as well here in London. The first of her endeavors would be becoming a member and the face of the Fashion and Lifestyle Society. Within this extracurricular social club, she has already helped to plan, direct, and DJ “The November Charity Fashion Show,” that raised $1320 for the London Housing Registry. And Savanna will be doing so all over again for the club’s next fashion show in March 2017.  In terms of her musical career in London, she can also be seen regularly on weekends spinning at Prohibition nightclub. Joining the roster of DJs and members of the event promotional team, JLxCo, Savanna has significantly developed her musical production and mixing skills.
Amongst all her endeavors, Savanna does feel the pressure of everything, struggling most with “self-organization, finding a balance, and having consistency.” However, her struggles have not hindered her passions and future goal to ultimately release her own EP. Despite the stress of such involvement in the creative arts, her focus remains to “find her own style within it” and just appreciate the process. Through connecting her DJing and singing, Savanna wants to record tracks that are played in the club, creating “commercial music people like, that evokes something in people, that people want to dance to,” she explains, “I want to play my own music and enjoy it with them.”
