Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the end of the semester has finally caught up to us. Unfortunately Thanksgiving break and all its deliciousness is over so it’s time to get back to those books. That means everyone’s least favorite time of the semester is here – finals week. (DUN DUN DUN)

Chances are you’re starting to stress out over all the assignments that you have to hand in and the insane amount of studying that you have to get done to pass your exams.

If you’re anything like me, you have more than your fair share of work to catch up with and you have no idea where to start.

But have no fear, we have some tips to help you power through those dreaded finals!

1. Stay hydrated

I know it seems silly to say but make sure you stay hydrated. It’s easy to loose track of time when you get yourself into a good flow. You head to the library and the sun is shining and campus is bustling with activity but the next thing you know it’s pitch black out and not another soul is in sight. Make sure you’re drinking up while you study. We don’t want you getting sick on us.

2. Eat

Even if it’s just a few granola bars you throw in your bag and nibble on during your study break, make sure you’re getting your nutrients in collegiettes! You’ll be able to focus more if you’re full and not listening to your stomach lecture you. Tip: Chocoate boosts energy levels! Dip your favorite fruit in soome chocolate and trick yourself into eating healthy.

3. Coffee Coffee Coffee

Grab a quick cup of coffee if you need a litle pick me up to help you stay awake. For those of you like me, who coffee does nothing for anymore, the taste alone should give you enough motivation to power through the next chapter. For those who don’t drink coffee, grab a steaming cup of tea or hot cocoa!

4. Exercise

You’ve hit a wall and feel like you can’t look at another textbook? Exercising is one of the best ways to stay energized. Pick an activity and get your blood pumping: kickboxing, yoga, Zumba, cycling, running, whatever works for you. Don’t want to go alone? Grab a friend! You’ll feel more relaxed and you’ll feel physically better.

5. Coloring books

You’re never too old to color! Coloring is calming and therapeutic, and it could be just the thing you need to stay relaxed. Now there are coloring books made specifically for adults. They can be found at Barnes and Nobles or Michaels (everyone’s favorite craft store!). Their intricate details could be just what you need to escape.

6. Music

The perfect playlist will make a world of a difference. Whether you use Apple Music, Pandora or Spotify, you have a wide variety of music to help you power through those long study sessions. You can mix it up with some slow music to help you maintain your calm or pump it up with some fast upbeat tunes to help you stay awake and energized.

7. SLEEP

I know I’m not one to talk because I am queen at pulling all-nighters but GET SOME SLEEP! There will be times when you have to push through those extra hours just to get that assignment done but sometimes that hurts us way more than it helps us. Studies have shown that students who rest are more relaxed enough to get through the pressure of their finals.

8. Take a break! Treat yourself!

Whether it’s your favorite tv show, comfort food, or a little retail therapy, do something for you. You’ve worked hard and you deserve something to make you feel good.

For all of our collegiettes at Adelphi, stop by No Stress Fest hosted by SAB on December 1st from 7pm – 9pm in the UC Ballroom! There will be loads of ways to de-stress including therapy dogs, massages, yummy yummy desserts and coloring! Most importantly, it’s FREE! So definitely pop in and relax before your finals.

Remember collegiettes : the most important part about finals is that you gave it your best effort! You can do this! We have faith in you!

May the finals be ever in your favor!

Hey party people!!!I'm Samantha, but my friends call me Sam because there are a million and one Samanthas out there. I am a sophmore studying English with a concentration in Creative Writing and Early Childhood Education at Adelphi Unversity. When you first meet me I am really shy but when I am with my friends I like to think that I am the life of the party. Usually you can find me reading, talking about TGIT, mindlessly scrolling my phone, tumbling (on Tumblr of course!), or pinning on Pinterest. My dream is to travel the world and make memories that will last me a lifetime. I'm always up for a new adventure!  My tumblr says more about me than I ever will : www.stonecold-novelist.tumblr.com Fun fact about me: I never really know what to say for these bio things and I always feel so awkward making them. *insert cute monkey hiding face emoji*
