Recently, I feel like everyone is dealing with a lot; whether it is schoolwork, other activities, sports, home, or just life itself which means everyone is beyond stressed out. I get that it is college, finals are around the corner, we are all adjusting to the school routine after Thanksgiving (only to go right back home again in a few weeks). With said transitions, traveling, adjustment, and a lot of work on each person’s plate, there comes a TON of stress and maybe a little bit of negativity.

We all have that class where we need to low key ace the final in order to get the grade we want in it (and for some, it’s in more than one class). The thought of having to thoroughly study (and maybe re-learn) a lot of new material is very daunting. We notice the people who just so happen to be good at that class and feel discouraged at times. Some students aren’t too kind about what they say about other people, classes, and how they feel they will do (let’s be honest, no one wants to listen to someone bragging about an easy A when it’s not really that easy of an A).

It is so easy to get caught up in what other people are saying about school. I know for me, I doubt myself or think that something is wrong with me when I see that I’m not doing as well as someone or the material isn’t making as much sense to me as it is to someone else. Before you let the crippling thoughts and feelings that you can’t keep up or get through the semester consume you, ask yourself: who said that? After I get super nervous, worked up, and stressed about something, asking myself that really puts me back into my place because sometimes we can tell ourselves that we may not be good enough, smart enough, or able to endure a particularly demanding week BUT we can! If you ever feel like you’re getting overwhelmed, know that you are not alone and don’t ever doubt yourself in your abilities to pull through.

Given all this “stress talk” that’s been going around, don’t let other people’s opinions influence how you feel about yourself. You are your own person and all of your feelings/opinions are always valid. Don’t ever feel like you are worth more or less than someone because of your academic performance or because you feel intimidated by someone’s success.

As finals come around, be kind to the people around you; try to be humble!! Watch your mouth because the class or exam you thought was a breeze might not have been too easy for someone else. We are all stressed here so let’s build our peers up because there’s no use in making people feel bad. Good Luck on the rest of the semester!!
