The Student Escape Corner is back at it again this semester with a new radio show. “Living Clean and Sober” focuses on educating the younger generation on the effects of drugs and alcohol, while encouraging students to make good choices.
Hosts Blanca Schneider LCSW-R, CASAC and co-host Earl Thompson work together harmoniously to lighten these subjects that can be considered as heavy content. Schneider is a credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor. She works with Stony Brook graduate social work students and collaborates with other school units to provide workshops on the reality of drugs and alcohol addiction, domestic violence, and how to effectively time-manage.
Frequently, Peer Educators, Student Affairs, faculty members, and AA join the show to give multiple perspectives on these situations. In October, UP Deputy Chief Sienna, Vice President of Student Affairs Wayne Edwards, and myself went on-air to discuss how sexting can affect our youth. The purpose was not to tell students what to do with their bodies, but to remind them of the possible consequences that sexting can bring.
“Living Clean and Sober” airs every Thursday at 3 PM EST under the guidance of OW Radio Station Manager, Prof. Joseph Manfredi. Listeners can tune in by clicking “Listen Live” at http://tunein.com/radio/OWWR-s129034/. To catch up on previous shows and other content, visit http://www.owwrny.org/.
