As a frequenter of both of these places, I felt it was apt that I create a comparison so that people can cater their nights to their moods. I love both of these places and would likely turn down neither on any given night out, but they are fundamentally different and depending on what you want, may not be appropriate.

Fabio’s:

I love this place. The vibes are always good and there’s little pressure. You come there to dance and if you don’t want to force Quaddies down your throat, you can get a nice, tasty cocktail. The alcohol slides down easily and you get the perfect buzz going. Not to mention, 3 jagerbombs for a fiver, who could turn that down?

The prices are good, the music is usually excellent and they have some pretty great live musicians and DJs coming in. They support the local musicians by paying them to come play – The Invitations, Basement Jazz, DJT and the like have all been there, perched on the balcony, playing the classics and your favorites.

Klute:

I’m not going to lie… If my friends didn’t insist on going here I probably would never go. I’d stay at Fabio’s all night long if I can. But where Fabio’s has a relatively transitional vibe to it, Klute is where you stay until the end, where you stay until That’s Amore plays. Klute is where you have two or three more drinks, maybe one of which you’ll actually remember.

This all sounds really bad, and sometimes it is, but Klute is where I have had some of the best nights of my Durham career. I have hit the deck several times only to get back up and keep on dancing, that’s the kind of place Klute is. The music is the kind of music you didn’t know you knew all the words to and let’s admit it, the way the photos are edited make you look great. If you’re drunk enough, this place is incredible.
