Today it was announced by the medieval legend @robinhoodtim outside the town hall, that our very own Nottingham Castle is to receive £13.9 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund, to go towards it’s Project Transform (hopefully a different kind of Project Transform than our Uni underwent this year!), which is estimated to cost £29.4 m overall.
Yes, we know that the castle doesn’t actually look like a castle anymore, but it’s been a hove of history for over a thousand years now, and has seen many a damsel in distress (and even a distressing damsel, in the form of Isabella of France who kidnapped her son, King Edward III), several grumpy kings and even a fiery rebellion. It’s been rebuilt twice already and it’s about time it was shown some love, especially since it hosts the Robin Hood Beer and Cider Festival every year!
So expect to see a prettier castle with more technology, more art and even more history – I for one am hoping that they update the dressing up box!
