7 Ways to Rock Your Marist Red This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marist chapter.

Despite temperatures reaching up to mid-80’s one week and waking up to snow fall the next, it really still is the season of fall. Mother Nature may be having an identity crisis, but that doesn’t mean we should have to sacrifice our favorite fall festivities. Aside from the PSLs, apple picking and leaves changing, one of the best parts of this season is the fashion. Fall means comfy sweaters, bold colors to match the foliage and more booties than you know what to do with. Make a statement while also showing some school spirit with these fashion picks:

1. The Bell-Sleeve Sweater

In the world of fashion, old school looks are constantly making a comeback. As depressing as it is to define the ‘90s as “vintage,” we can’t deny the era that first made bell-sleeves a thing. The dramatic sleeve can spice up any outfit with limited effort, perfect for a busy college students’ lifestyle.

2. Open-Toe Booties

Booties are the biggest footwear-rage these days, and the open-toe style makes it even better. While I don’t suggest rocking these statement shoes to class, they make the perfect accessory for a night out in PoTown.

3. ColourPop Lipstick

For broke college students and make-up lovers alike, Colourpop offers a variety of lip shades for only $6 per stick. Find the perfect Red Fox red and rock it to football games, girls’ night out and all throughout fall. Alternatively, Kylie Cosmetics sells the perfect Marist red lipkit named MaryJo K, but the product comes with a $30 price tag.

4. Under-Boot Socks

Any day you don’t have to wear pants has the potential to be the best day ever. Knee-highs and under boot socks make it possible to go pant-less and stay warm as the weather cools down. Pair these high socks with a cozy, dark-colored dress to create a simple fall-inspired look.

5. Cropped Sweaters

Now is the time to capitalize on the almost-but-not-quite-yet-freezing temperatures. It’s cooling down, but you can still get away with showing a little skin without risking hyperthermia. Cropped sweaters will help achieve both school spirit and just the right amount of sex appeal.

6. Turtlenecks

Remember when we were in sixth grade and would be horrified to wear a turtleneck to school? Now we appreciate the full coverage and the opportunity to warm our necks without the use of added accessories. In case of a hair-styling catastrophe or some regretful weekend decision, turtlenecks will also help you to hide those unwanted marks from the outside world.

7. Ponchos

Aside from yoga pants, ponchos may be the greatest thing to ever happen to women’s clothing. Now we can cozy up wherever and whenever we want. Instead of carrying a fleece blanket through campus (which is totally not frowned upon), we can stay warm and look fashionable at the same time.

8. Leggings

I am thrilled to say that the trend of wearing leggings as pants has lived to see another year. The concept of pants made with buttons and zippers and non-stretchable material is so last decade. College student or not, this is one trend I will continue to support until I’m an old, lonely dog lady. Those who are equally as lazy and comfort-friendly will remain committed to leggings as pants, until death do us part.
