There’s a strange phenomenon that I have discovered in my own life and have heard about in the lives of others: the thought of college students actually liking (or loving) their part-time jobs. Whether it’s because it involves your passion, future career, or is just an awesome environment, here are 12 things you know if you’re obsessed with your job:
1. It’s a big priority in your life. You rarely call out or ask for days off, just because you like being there.
2. Sometimes you forget you’re getting paid to be there. (And when you remember, it makes the job even better.)
3. Even if you weren’t really feeling work that day, once you clock in, a little rush of energy goes through you.
4. Often, you wish you could miss school in order to help out more at work. (And then you feel guilty because your education is important and this is just your college job. But basically, it’s a form of education in itself. Where else would you learn how to make the perfect frappuccino or how to spotlessly clean bathrooms?)
5. You feel needed and loved there. If you didn’t come to work, basically the world would fall apart.
6. You find yourself talking about your job constantly with your family or friends. And usually, you don’t remember why you started talking about it.
7. Your family and friends now know your coworkers names, their life stories and all the drama that you deal with on a daily basis. They don’t particularly want to know or care about this information, but it’s such a big part of your life that you can’t imagine them not knowing.
8. You find yourself thinking about work when you should be paying attention to something else.
9. Everyone knows you’re obsessed with your job, probably because you post about it on social media so often.
10. Sometimes you stay longer to finish something up after you clock out, just because you care about doing the job well and helping out.
11. You are in love with your coworkers. You are a team with a special language of inside jokes and a bond no one else could understand. Even if you don’t always get along or work is rough that day, you are the cheesiest definition of a family.
12. When people complain about their jobs or hours, you don’t relate. Because you’re happily obsessed with your job. And that’s a lot better than the other way around.
