8 Jackets You Need for the Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

As the weather gets colder, NYU students begin to dread cold long walks to class and being stuck indoors. And while winter depression is coming at us, it is important to look at the positive side of the colder months…new clothes! Fall may just be the best season for clothing, especially jackets, since lightweight ones are a lot more exciting than the down coat you will be forced to break out soon for the winter months… Wondering what kind of jacket to purchase next? Here are some of the fall 2016 jacket trends you need to try.

1. Embroidered Bomber Jacket

I actually own this jacket from Bloomingdale’s and it has been my absolute favorite this year. I simply throw it on with leggings, a white t-shirt, and sneakers and I’m ready for class.

2. Distressed Oversized Denim

A denim jacket is an absolute must-have for the fall. They go with everything! By getting one that is oversized and distressed, you’ll be updating a look that’s been around forever. Check out this one from Forever 21.

3. Velvet Bomber Jacket

Bomber jackets are all the rage this season, they’re everywhere! Getting a velvet one, like this one from Brandy Melville is a great way to have yours stand out in a crowd. The velvet will also keep you a little bit warmer than the other materials that they usually come in.

4. Patches

Patches are a really fun trend this fall that you can find on all sorts of jackets, like this one from Love Culture. I personally got a super inexpensive jacket and hot-glued on some patches that I bought from Etsy. This way I could customize it with all my favorite things.

5. Leather Moto Jacket

Leather jackets never go out of style, making them a must-have staple in everybody’s wardrobe. The best part? They’re ideal for going out at night. This one from Forever 21 in particular is awesome for just that because it is super affordable, so you won’t feel too paranoid hiding it under a table while you dance at your favorite bar.

6. Colored Faux Fur

Colored faux fur is a fun new look that has been popping up a lot this year. Check out this faux fur collared jacket from Topshop. Bonus: faux fur collars are also great for some extra warmth!

7. Statement Color

Bright coats are great for spicing up an otherwise boring outfit. Throw on a coat like this one from Express with jeans and a plain t-shirt and you’ll look super put together.

8. Sporty Chic

Sporty jackets are not only perfect for working out, but also to wear on a daily basis. The print on this one from Adidas is really fun and would be easy to throw on for a long day of classes.
