10 Halloween Costume Alternatives to the Sexy Bunny

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Iowa chapter.

If you’re anything like me, nothing’s scarier on Halloween than the idea of going out and revealing all of your Victoria’s Secrets. While I do admire anyone who has the confidence and body to pull off a sexy Halloween costume, they just aren’t for me. I would prefer to be cute and comfortable, not spending the whole night making sure my flimsy costume is staying intact. However, I’ve found it hard to dig through the thousands of Pinterest pins of “sexy” halloween costumes to find a cute, unique one that I would feel comfortable wearing. I have compiled a list of ten Halloween costumes you probably haven’t thought of yet that won’t make you feel uncomfortable all night.

1. Angel

Show up all the girls dressed up as Victoria’s Secret angels with this costume. Chances are you definitely own a white tee, so now all you need is a cute white skirt that you can wear another time and a pair of wings.

2. Princess

It’s never too late to make your childhood dreams come true. Every girl at the party will be sad they didn’t think of this sooner. Plus, I’m pretty sure a “sexy princess” isn’t a thing, no matter how much costume companies want to market them as such.

3. Netflix & Chill

Take this year’s biggest internet joke and make it into a costume with your best friend. You will be admired for your creativity and ability to make an ambiguous concept into a Halloween costume. And what’s comfier than wearing an oversized tee or sweatshirt all night?

4. Rosie the Riveter

Show your support for girl power while also being able to flawlessly pull off red lipstick. While this costume is fairly common, every person who wears it seems to add their own unique twist to it. There’s no need to make this costume sexy; confidence is the sexiest thing a girl can wear.

5. Unicorn

Thought it was impossible to dress up as a mythical creature? Guess again. Make sure to add your own twist on it, like a feather boa or sparkly makeup. A simple white dress or onesie will keep you comfy all night without showing anything you don’t want to show.

6. Minnie Mouse

Haven’t touched those Minnie Mouse ears since your family took a vacation to Disney World in 2nd grade? While Minnie Mouse is also a fairly common costume, you can put this together last minute with a few items you probably already have in your closet. Taking your own spin on a cute classic is always a clever idea.

7. Sailor

Even if you won’t be celebrating Halloween by the sea, this costume is adorable no matter where you are. The best part about this is that you can re-wear most of these items and the sailor hat will probably come in handy for a theme party down the road.

8. Fruit

Grab a few friends and roll up to the party as a bunch of different fruits. These costumes take very little effort but are quirky enough to stand out from the crowd. Just like we saw the Netflix and Chill costumes, oversized tees are where it’s at.

9. Rosé

Yes, it is possible to dress up as your favorite pink drink. A cute pink dress is easy to find and will be cute and comfortable for whatever the night’s activities entail.

10. Hippie

Give off good vibes all night long and then wear those pants to class on Monday because they’re both comfy and cute. While this costume is a bit more revealing, you can also opt out of the crop top and choose a different shirt.

While Halloween can be daunting for those of us who don’t like to show off all our assets, it is possible to still have a cute, unique costume that is comparable to all the others. You don’t always have to resort to the sexy bunny. Hopefully we’ve given you a little inspiration to come up with a clever costume for whatever Halloween weekend has in store.
