We’ve all had those days when you just can’t seem to get your hair to look right so you throw your hair up and ignore it for the rest of the day. Follow some of these simple tips and tricks and you’ll have healthy, amazing looking hair that you will definitely want to show off!
Hairbrushes:
A good hair brush is often underestimated when it comes to hair care. This is something you definitely don’t want to cheap out on! Over time, a bad hair brush can cause breakage, split ends, and contribute to overall dullness. I’ve gathered together a few of my favourite brushes based on what they’re for and where to buy them.
The Wet Brush
This is my all-time favourite brush. Although its intended for wet locks, it works great on dry hair too. You can say goodbye to cursing and crying trying to get that one knot out, the Wet Brush is here to answer all your hair prayers!
A Boar Bristle Brush
This is my go-to when my hair is looking dull! The bristles in this brush help distribute your natural oils without making your hair oily, run this through your hair as your heading out the door to give it some extra shine.
Thermal Round Brush
These brushes are meant for blow-drying and styling. The thin bristles separate your hair and the hollow brush allows for the heat to flow evenly throughout your hair. Use this brush for a faster and more even style.
Hair products:
Dry Shampoo
Dry Shampoo is great in a pinch; it’ll get you from class to party ready in no time! Spray it on your roots, rub it in, and you’re set. My favourite dry shampoo is Marc Anthony’s Clear Dry Shampoo. A lot of dry shampoos on the market spray white, so for someone with dark hair, like myself, it looks like dandruff. This one truly goes on and stays clear, and leaves little to no residue!
Argan Oil
Argan oil is great to help repair weather damage and everyday wear on your hair. Work a little bit of this into your hand after the shower or before styling (dry or wet) and it will leave your hair looking healthy and shiny. Even though it’s an oil, surprisingly, it doesn’t leave your hair looking or feeling greasy!
Heat Protectant
I cannot stress how important this is. Not a lot of people even consider using heat protectant but I promise you, in the long run you will be thankful that you did. It protects your hair from all the damage that styling tools cause.
Hair Spray
Obviously a staple item in any girls styling routine; my favourite is Marc Anthony’s “Oil of Morocco” Hair Spray. It smells great and leaves your hair with a nice shine!
General Tips
You can buy all the hair products you want but it comes down to proper care to keep your hair healthy!
- Brush! Brush! Brush! Brush your hair, it helps clear out all the loose pieces that are caught in with the rest of your hair and get the natural oils flowing, your scalp will thank you!
- Condition every other day. Conditioners are heavy and they weigh down your hair, when you do condition, try to only condition from the middle of your hair to the ends, never the scalp.
- Don’t rub your hair with a towel, this causes your hair to break off and split, instead pat it dry.
- Don’t over use hair products, dry shampoo and hair spray can be great, but they cause buildup on your scalp and in your hair, which is definitely not healthy.
- Scrunchies. I know what you’re thinking, you don’t want to look like a 12-year-old from the 90’s but, they will save your hair, normal elastics rip and pull on your hair. If you’re not into the scrunchy look, you can find elastic free hairbands; they look just like a regular pony tail but they are much better for your hair.
I know this seems like a lot of work but once this becomes part of your regular routine, you won’t believe you used to do it differently!
