Autumn is finally here, and as a lipstick obsessive, this makes me very happy. There’s nothing I love more than a dark berry lip, and whilst I do sport a vampy hue all year round, there’s something so much more satisfying about the shade during the colder months. Here’s a round-up of some of my favourites, ranging from high street to high end.
Sleek Matte Me Ultra Smooth Matte Lip Cream in Velvet Slipper
With liquid lipsticks popping up all over my Instagram feed, this affordable offering from Sleek had me pleasantly surprised. At just £4.99 it’s super cheap for how amazing it is – it stays on for hours, even through eating and drinking, and is opaque in just one coat. Although slightly drying on the lips, with a lip balm underneath you should be good to go. A beautiful deep mauve, this colour is perfect as both an everyday shade as well as for an evening look.
Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss in 107
This high street cult classic is a deep reddish-berry tone, and for £5.49 you really can’t go wrong. Whilst this lipstick is still matte, it isn’t as drying as a liquid lipstick, so is much easier to wear and is comfortable on the lips. All the lipsticks in this line are intensely pigmented so I would highly recommend giving them a swatch!
Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Red Velvet
In contrast to the matte lipsticks I’ve previously mentioned, Revlon’s offering is a lovely creamy hybrid between a lipstick and lip balm. Red Velvet is a brown-toned red – something a bit different to the rest of the lipsticks mentioned – and at £7.99 it’s worth picking a few of these up. Some other colours that I love are Sugar Plum and Raspberry Pie.
MAC Rebel
An oldie but a goldie, MAC’s Rebel was the first berry toned lipstick that I bought. Another classic, it’s one of MAC’s best sellers, and for good reason. It’s a satin finish, meaning that it doesn’t dry out the lips at all, and its’ gorgeous purple-berry colour stays on for hours, leaving behind a slight stain. At £15.50 it is slightly more expensive, but it’s well worth it.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Potion
The last lipstick I’ve got to mention is ABH’s Potion. This is everything I want in a liquid lipstick, and is my favourite out of the whole bunch. Despite being only available currently online and in Sephora (I will forever be jealous of America’s beauty offerings), and the priciest at $20, it is a wonderful rich, dark purple that I can’t stop wearing. Again, as it is a liquid lipstick it can be drying, but ensuring it is applied over well moisturised lips helps combat this. For added precision, I always use a lip liner as such a dark colour can be risky!
