Why Fall is Better Than Any Other Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal U chapter.

It is finally October which means that Fall is officially upon us! Sorry summer people, but your time is over and really fall is clearly the superior season… I can prove it.

Halloween and Thanksgiving

Fall officially kicks off the holiday season with two of the best! What other day can you dress up as anyone you want to be and get to drink as much as you want without judgment? (Assuming you’re of age, of course.) Plus all of the candy you can eat! Whether you still go trick-or-treating or you simply hit up stores the day after for the clearance. Thanksgiving is literally a holiday centered around food, so what more could you want?

Scenery

We are lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful states and it gets especially beautiful this time of year. Seriously, what beats walking outside and seeing those leaves? Honestly it’s so beautiful sometimes it takes my breath away. Not to mention the sound of crunching leaves under your feet.

Temperature

The humidity is finally gone! I think we can all agree, no matter how much you love summer, that the humidity is a killer. Now you can finally fix your hair just once during the day because you don’t have to worry about frizz or sweat ruining it. Honestly, fall has the most perfect weather because you can leave the house in a jacket and be comfortable. Plus, you don’t have to worry about being all sweaty once you finish your commute.

The Fashion

I could literally go on about how great fall fashion is all day, but I will try to keep it short and sweet. How can you not love being able to wear cute little boots and leggings? Not to mention that it’s SWEATER WEATHER. I wait all year to finally be able to take my beloved sweaters out of the back of the closet because honestly, they make for a great look and they’re super comfy too. I think that’s genuinely the best part about clothing in fall is that it’s cute and comfortable…what more could you possibly need? If you’re running late and don’t feel like messing with your hair, throw on a beanie! If you have a plain shirt that you want to spruce up just throw on a scarf! There are endless possibilities this time of year, you can literally wear the same shirt all week and no one would notice depending on how you accessorize. Scarves are everything.

Pumpkin Galore

I know that this one is a hit or miss. You either love pumpkin or you hate it (but good news for the pumpkin haters, there’s also apple flavored everything!) We pumpkin lovers have to struggle through most of the year just dreaming about when we can get our PSL or our pumpkin ale, when it is finally time it is almost enough to make you cry. You can literally find anything in a pumpkin flavor and it is a beautiful thing. Seriously, why don’t they do this year round?

Horror Movies and Haunted Houses

One of the most fun parts of October specifically is binging horror movies (especially the bad ones) and going to haunted houses. Who doesn’t like to get a little scared every once in awhile? There is definitely no other way that I know of to get your adrenaline up like that. Even if you aren’t someone who scares easily it could be fun to go through the houses and scare your friends or make jokes out of the displays.

Fall TV Premiers

All of the good shows premier in the fall, it’s a fact. You no longer have to get by on just reruns of old episodes. If you’re a TV buff like me this is the best time of the year for you.

No Shave November

Whether you participate yourself or just enjoy looking at all of the beards, no shave November is a truly beautiful time. Everyone looks hotter with a beard there’s no denying this. For you guys I’m sure it’s nice to not have to wake up and make sure your face is cleanly shaven every day. And for us girls it’s great to not feel the pressure of shaving for shorts. I feel that we should extend this tradition until at least February.

There are so many things that make fall the best and I could go on forever but in case you aren’t convinced quite yet here’s a few more for you:

  • Hockey and football
  • Homecoming
  • Oktoberfest
  • All the bugs die or become dormant
  • Only two more months until Christmas

So whether you love fall or just suffer through it until spring, snuggle up, watch some scary movies and drink all the pumpkin spice lattes your heart desires!
