Name: Khadijah Wright
Major: Speech Communication
Classification: Senior
Fun Fact: I’ve been out of the country twice in the last year.
HC: Tell us a little about yourself:
KW: I am 22 years old, born and raised in Atlanta Georgia. I love spending time with my family and friends. I would consider myself as a family oriented women who puts God and her family above anything else. If I had to use one word to describe myself it would be passionate. I am passionate about everything that I do and I put in 100% effort at everything that I out my mind to. I am dedicated and hardworking and my love for my family encourages me to strive to be the best women I can be for them and myself.
HC: What are your aspirations in life?
KW: One day I hope to own my own business or become a journalist. Once I graduate from college I plan to attend graduate school here at Valdosta State University or Georgia State University. Most women plan to have a family, kids, husband, and a house in the suburbs while my aspirations are a bit different. After graduate school I aspire to travel the world, meet new people, and learn new ways of living life. I plan to live freely, while having a career that allows me to do all of these things.
HC: What are you involved in on campus?
KW: President of SSCS (Student Society of Communication Scholars), Fundraising Chair of NAACP, Judicial Board Member of Sigma Alpha Omega, new member of Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society, member of Media Arts Geniuses, member of Enactus, Miss Black and Gold Representing the Mu Omicron Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
HC: What are you currently doing to influence students on campus?
KW: I feel as if the students on campus see the effort that I continue to put in, in order to be successful as well as my encouragement to my peers to do the same. As a member of some of the smaller organizations at VSU, I have been able to influence students to not only join the larger organizations but also the organizations that are smaller. I have achieved a lot on this campus, and through my success, I have been able to encourage others to do the same. Stepping outside of my comfort zone has influenced other students to step outside of their comfort zones and try things that they would have never tried. Joining smaller organizations have influenced my peers to join those organizations and to get involved as well.
HC: Why should you be chosen for Homecoming Queen?
KW: All of my life I have dreamed of being successful and I have always done my best at everything that I do. When I came to college and finally started to become the women that I am now, I knew that there was more to life than just being on this earth. As far as school goes, I feel as if I am a role model to my peers and younger girls. I do not limit myself to just learning what is taught to me in a classroom. I study hard and participate in class to ensure that I get the most out of my education. A Homecoming Queen represent the best of Valdosta State University’s values which include Diversity, Leadership, Excellence, and lots of school spirit which are all characteristics that I can identify with. Through involvement on campus and academic success I feel as if I embody all that VSU’s Homecoming Queen should be. During my four years here at VSU I have been able to actively participate in many organizations while also making my studies a priority. My leadership roles have allowed me to not only better myself, but have allowed me to positively impact the students around me. For these reasons, I believe I should be Valdosta State Universities 2016 Homecoming Queen.
HC: What sets you apart from other candidates?
KW: A homecoming queen is a representation of our school. I feel that I relate with the average student on campus. I am relatable. I go through things just like other students, I work hard and I am involved in several activities just like everyone else. However, what sets me a part is my ability to relate to a diverse group of people. As a communication major, I have learned skills that have helped me to feel comfortable with conversing with people of different cultures, ethnicities, as well as gender. With this, I have been able to become friends and get to know people that are completely different from me.
Voting begins on Tuesday, October 18th on Campus Connect! HCXO!
