Name: Madeline Pomaro
Year: 4th
Major: Theater Arts
Minor: Instagram puppy stalker (I don’t actually have a minor)
Hometown: Piedmont, CA
Her Campus: What are you involved with on campus?
Maddie Pomaro: I’m really involved with the Theater department by performing in and managing Main Stage shows. I’m also the Co-Manager of Students’ Stage – the only student run theater club on campus.
HC: Tell us more about your work in the Theater department!
MP: I’ve performed in a few Main Stage shows (the ones directed by the faculty) as well as a few student directed projects and One Acts. I’ve also been a Performer/TA for the Intro to Theater class where we would perform short scenes from the plays students were reading for class. I have been a stage manager for the department before, which basically means I keep track of schedules, make sure the rehearsal process runs smoothly for both the director/ production team and the actors, as well as calling cues during performances. I’m lucky that I’ve gotten to work so much with the faculty and gain some really valuable experience.
HC: What’s the best play you’ve seen recently?
MP: I just got back from Study Abroad in London where we saw so many plays – I’m talking at least two a week. I think my favorite play I saw there was called Boys Will Be Boys. It was about women working in London’s male-dominated financial district. It was sort of a cabaret (there were a few musical numbers in it) and the cast was entirely female, meaning some of them had to dress in drag when they were playing men. They were all incredible and looked very cool in their suits. We also saw a great version of the play adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984. HC: What are your plans post-graduation? I would really like to go back to the UK and get involved in theater there. My dream would be to work for the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland – it’s the most beautiful city with the kindest people. Eventually I plan to go back to school to get a Master’s degree and a PhD.
HC: Favorite place to eat in SLO?
MP: It WAS SLO Pasty Co., but that’s gone now so I’ll have to say the breakfast burritos from Charlie’s Place…or Popeyes…
HC: Favorite inspirational quote?
MP: “If I had any talent in the world … I would be a great diva.” – Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (AKA the Notorious RBG)
HC: How do you feel about Corgis?
MP: Don’t even get me started!!!! I want a Corgi so badly! They are the funniest little dogs with their stubby legs and big ears. They’re small without being so small that I think I might squish it. Plus, I’ve never met a Corgi who didn’t look like the happiest little puppy ever. They’re just really smiley dogs. And they run funny.
HC: What is one thing that should be on everybody’s SLO bucket list?
MP: Getting SLO Do Co really late at night with a good friend, or at least getting a donut right when they come out of the ovens.
