Sigh. It’s that time of year again…midterm season *insert crying face emoji here* You can’t avoid it no matter how hard you try; they’re unfortunately inevitable. Being in third year, I still can’t get over the fact how midterms are all crammed within a week or two. I’ve noticed throughout the years that there are stages everyone goes through during midterm season. Sadly, you are bound to go through one or more of these stages during midterm season.
1. Denial
Midterms are approaching. You see them in your schedule and you can’t believe they are almost here. You wish you could go back to September and that you didn’t take all that free time for granted. But this is only the beginning. While in the denial stage you know you should be studying, but let’s be real, you only look at the syllabus and know you still have time.
2. Anger
You have finally looked through all of the material you’re going to be tested on. One problem though: how are you going to be able to memorize all this information? Is your professor crazy? Have you even learned all of this material already?! Don’t they realize you have at least four other exams to study for in the same week! Now the anger kicks up another notch.
3. Panic
You’re now running out of time and you don’t think you have enough time to prepare in order to pass your midterm. You realize you don’t know anything. So naturally you start to panic. Then you start to regret watching so many YouTube videos, online shopping, creeping people on Facebook…the list goes on and on.
4. Caffeine Rush
Time to let the caffeine kick in to help you get through long nights of studying. We all know that cramming for an exam isn’t the way to go, but we all do it anyways. Bring on the coffee, espresso shots, lattes, Americanos – whatever can keep you awake in order to study. Of course, with this stage comes the lack of sleep due to the overload of caffeine.
5. Hopelessness
It’s now late into the night and you’ve lost all hope of retaining any information you’ve just read. You start to give up, go to bed and tell yourself that you will wake-up early to review everything all over again.
6. Relief & Celebration
Hurray! You hand in your last midterm in to your professor and walk out of that classroom like a boss. Your exams are now over! You can finally get your free time back and celebrate with your friends, binge watch shows on Netflix, and online shop… until finals season.
7. Pass Out
After a long night of celebrating you finally get to go home and crash into your comfy bed. Not only that, but you also have the best sleep of your life and can finally enjoy a proper good night’s rest.
