Everyone has that one TV show that entered their life at just the right time and embodied everything they needed it to be. For me, this was Gilmore Girls. Friendships, the bond between mother and daughter, drama-filled relationships- it was relatable storylines accompanied by whip-smart dialogue and lovably larger-than-life characters. I wanted to grow up to be as studious and endearing as Rory and as witty and fierce as Lorelai. Now, years later, it is still just as relevant and hilarious. With Netflix bringing Gilmore back for a 4-part revival series, old and new fans alike are in for a spiral of emotions before November 25th.
When you first heard the news that a Gilmore Girls revival was in the works you just assumed it was one of those Internet rumors that never pans out and ends up shattering your dreams.
But then the news was confirmed and you shed a few silent tears.
And then you found out that basically the entire cast is returning. You needed a minute to gather your emotions.
The questions began immediately. Did Lorelai and Luke finally make it work? Has Rory conquered the world yet? Are Friday Night Dinners still a thing? Is Paris still a neurotic nutjob? And most importantly, what is Kirk up to these days?
So you casually attempt to re-watch all 7 seasons on Netflix before November. RIP your social life.
But, honestly, Netflix takes priority.
Every time the beginning credits roll and “Where You Lead” plays you belt it out with no shame whatsoever.
You feel so proud of yourself for understanding more of the obscure cultural references now that you’re older.
Rory and Lorelai’s bizarre catchphrases make their way into your everyday jargon, much to the bewilderment of the non-fans in your life.
Alas, you underestimated the emotional turmoil this show would cause you the 2nd (or 8th) time around.
Your roommate walks in on you yelling at your laptop, begging Lorelai to finally realize her feelings for Luke.
Or screaming into a pillow during the “You Jump, I Jump, Jack” scene.
And your real life friendships begin to fall apart because you’re Team Logan but your best friend is a die-hard Dean or Jess fan.
But it’s fine because who needs living, breathing friends when you’ve got Lane Kim?
Then suddenly the weeks turn into days and you can barely contain your anticipation.
You dodge spoilers about the revival on the Internet like your life depends on it.
You clear your entire calendar and warn your parents not to worry if they don’t hear from you for a couple days.
Finally…November 25th rolls around and you may or may not run a few red lights rushing home from class.
You savor the new episodes like an adult, rather than bingeing them quickly…
Just kidding! You finish the entire series in a matter of a few hours. No shame.
