The world may have forgotten about #DonutGate, but the White House is still holding it against Ariana Grande. In a series of leaked emails, it was made very, very clear that the singer was not welcome at the White House to perform at last year’s Democratic National Convention. Sure, we cringed when we saw that video of Ariana licking—then putting back—donuts, the magnitude of that mistake wasn’t made clear until now.
The singer is probably kicking herself for her mistake. Last September, DNC Finance Chair Zachary Allen sent an email asking for Ariana to be vetted for a gala performance for the president, and boy were his staffers thorough.
“Video caught her licking other peoples’ donuts while saying she hates America,” an email response read. Apparently, a Republican congressman also took issue with her because “liberals were not upset with her like they are with Trump who criticized Mexicans,” even after she “cursed out a person on Twitter after that person used an offensive word towards her brother.”
There’s more where that came from—Gawker published the full email, which includes her date of birth, employment information, and a clean-as-a-whistle record… aside from that donut incident, of course. The lesson to be learned here? Don’t take food that isn’t yours. Sadly, Ariana just had to learn that the hard way.
