The 5 Types of People You Find in the Library

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Drexel chapter.

As midterms and finals creep up, students are beginning to retreat back into the corners of campus and the library tables become uncomfortably packed. When they aren’t making the long trek from the library basement to Starbucks, here are some types of people you are likely to stumble upon in the Hagerty Library.

1. The Regulars

These people know what’s up because they basically live in the library. They have their favorite location where the temperature is always perfect, outlets are in reach, and they are far from the civilization of the ‘one time’ library attendees.

2. The Snackers

These people only make the trip to library so that they can spread out their extensive array of snacks around the table neatly, drink gallons of coffee, and feel okay about it. You can’t study without snacks! So, the calories don’t count, right?

3. The Silent Area Hiders

These people are a whole new breed of human being. They prefer to stare blankly into wooden box walls for hours on end and isolate themselves from the outside world. They take silence seriously, so if you are studying with friends, enter the ‘silence only area’ at your own risk. You will be stared down and shushed.

4. The Distractors

There is always one. Sometimes we love their presence because we need a good break, but you’d prefer not to get kicked under the table or tagged in Facebook dog videos when you have an exam in six hours.

5. The “In It For The Long Haulers”

With supplies in hand and game faces on, these people aren’t usually found in packs. They might have even booked a collaboration room – they aren’t messing around. Their mission is to complete all homework and study for their exam, getting it done efficiently and effectively.

Thanks to the quarter system here at Drexel, there is always something to study. When the distractions in your dorm are too strong to resist, it may be time to hit the books in the library. Maybe you’ve never been or maybe it’s your second home, but either way, Hagerty is a pretty good study spot. Before you pack your backpack, ask yourself: which type of library-goer will you be?
