Do’s and Don’ts for Freshman
(http://campusboundscholars.org/first-days/)
Â
All of us on probably remember those first few weeks of time we spent on the UW’s campus. They were most likely a whirlwind of meeting new people, exploring campus, getting lost and maybe a sense of being overwhelmed. At least for me I know having a little bit of advice would have helped to make my first few weeks as a freshman even better. That being said here are a couple of Dos and Don’ts on how to make your initial time here at the UW the absolute best.
1.    Do walk to all of your classes before the first day of class. This may sound silly but it will let you have a relaxed first day and you won’t end up running through campus looking for a building could have sworn was on the quad.
2.    Do take some time and participate in the Dawg Dayz events. These events might sound silly and “lame” but I promise getting free stuff or food is great and that you never know who you might meet on a midnight Fredmeyer trip.
3.    Don’t take an incredibly challenging course load right off the bat. This may sound counterintuitive but take a lighter class load your first quarter here. This will give you a chance to really learn how the college studying structure works and will make for a quarter with a little more time for socializing and forming friendships. Trust me, you’ll have plenty of time to buckle down later.
4.    Do take classes you are interested in. When you register some of the classes may sound a little random but if the subject interests you, then go for it! You will enjoy going to lectures, labs and quiz sections a lot more if you actually have a genuine interest in the subject.
5.    Don’t only hang out with friends from high school. If you are from certain schools you may already know lots of people on campus and while that’s great, take your first few weeks to branch out and meet new people (or invite new people to join your old friends). It’s important to make new friends and keep your old ones.
6.    Don’t worry! College can be stressful but it really is a lot of fun yourself if you let yourself to stop worrying and enjoy the experience. From late night runs to the Ave and adventures at parties and even study sessions with classmates there are a lot of opportunities for a good time in college. Relax. You’ll be a pro at the whole experience in no time!Â
