Senior year is like going to Costco for a gallon of milk and coming back with fifty packages of mac ‘n’ cheese that are on sale: on paper it seems to be fairly simple, but in reality, it’s a whirlwind of senior theses, countless grad school and job applications, ceremonies and banquets, and so on. There’s only a little time left for seniors to be thinking of all of the most “Muhlenberg” things they want to do before they finally move that tassel to the other side. Luckily, I’ve got you covered. 1. Eat your favorite Mule Express meal
Everyone’s got one, and if you don’t, now’s the time to find it out. Nothing gets Muhlenberg students riled up quite like Mule Express lines that wrap around the corner for Pasta Monday, heated debates about which ‘n’ chips dish is best, or what constitutes a legitimate pot pie.
2. Watch the sunset from Trexler Park
Sunsets at ‘Berg are pretty spectacular, but nothing beats sitting amongst the budding flower gardens at Trexler Park in the spring and watching them turn an orange-pink from the setting sun. This is also a good chance for you to take a breather from the stress of school.
3. Thank a professor who’s helped you
When you ask students why they chose Muhlenberg, someone is guaranteed to mention the small student to teacher ratio, and the close bonds that form between students and professors as a result. We’re lucky enough not to be numbers but names. Our professors play a big role in our education, and they deserve credit where credit is due.
4. See a theatre production
The Princeton Review ranked us sixth in the United States for “Best College Theater.” Best of all, there are plenty of opportunities to see a production: between Mainstage shows, Blackboxes, and the Red Door Play Festival, the theatre department always busy.
5. Explore Allentown
Yes, you’ve probably heard enough Muhlenbubble jokes to last a lifetime, but have you actually done anything about it? The Allentown Fairgrounds, Civic Theatre, PPL Center, not to mention a plethora of restaurants, are all at your fingertips and an UBER ride away.
6. Grab a beer and fries at the Tavern
The Tavern on Liberty’s convenient location, smack dab in between ML and a street of Mile Houses, combined with its craft beers, make it a popular spot for students 21 and over. A night out has never been more convenient.
7. Sunbathe under Victor’s Lament
Muhlenberg just wouldn’t be Muhlenberg without the classic postcard shot of the red angles of Victor’s Lament framing Haas in the distance. Warm weather also tends to lead to a swarm of students soaking up the sun on the front lawn, so why not kill two birds with one stone?
8. Make an announcement from the balcony of the dining hall
So this one may be a bit of stretch for those of you who are on the quiet side, but you have to admit that the number of sports teams, performance groups, and happy birthday singers who manage to silence a room of over a hundred people is pretty impressive. You deserve a shot at it too!
9. Attend a multicultural center meeting
The past couple of years have seen great social upheaval at the national level that has reverberated throughout our campus, and several groups in the multicultural center have been working hard to address students’ concerns. After all, education doesn’t have to stop in the classroom.
10. Watch an a cappella group or performance ensemble
Students are constantly creating new performance groups from show tunes to improv, Shakespeare to long-form comedy to performance art. There’s something here for everyone.
Congrats to all the seniors and good luck in the real world!
