Hip Hop duo Rae Sremmurd headlined a killer evening at A&O ball last Friday, April 29th. Just a few days before the anticipated event, A&O announced that “Harlem Shake” artist Baauer would be joining the duo at the Riviera theater in downtown Chicago.
As eager Northwestern students piled into the compact theater on the cold Spring night, the energy was at a new level. The theater was divided into two sections: the mosh pit area, as well as an elevated level that left room for dancing and talking (or screaming over the speakers). It even had a balcony for A&O personnel exclusively. The venue itself far surpassed that of last fall’s A&O blowout at the Aragon Ballroom that was ultimately too big for the number of attendees. Students all agreed that while the venue was compact, it enhanced the overall experience. Students that dared to spend time in the center, emerged sweaty and exhausted, having “Harlem Shak[ed]” with hundreds of other Wildcats.
At the end of the night, before performing their worldwide hit “No Type,” the two brothers amped up the crowd by calling Northwestern students “lit.” The crowd of Nerd-westerners roared in response, raised their hands, took out their phones, and danced the rest of the night a way. It is safe to say that A&O once again hosted a “ball.”
