Hey all you Book Nook readers! If you’re like me, you’re breathing a sigh of relief: Summer is (almost) here at last!!!

Whether you’re planning to be lying on a beach, chilling in a cabin, exploring a new city or just hanging at home, a book is a great way to unwind! However, the last thing you want to do is have to think about your book choices, so I’m here to save you the trouble. Without further ado, I give you…Her Campus Boise State’s End of Semester Reads!

For Emotions Abound: Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen

Whether you feel more drawn to the kitchen queen Claire or her more flamboyant sister, Sydney, you are sure to fall in love with the Waverley women. When Sydney and her daughter finally return to her hometown of Bascom, North Carolina, she finds her older sister the successful proprietor of her own catering business. Sydney has secrets (Claire can tell), but it’s going to take a lot of time to work them out. A beautiful story about the importance of family, watch as these sisters reconnect and learn to trust and support each other…but will Sydney’s dark, violent secret ruin everything?

For Those Who Love Adventure: The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

Ah, The Raven Boys…Where do I even begin?! Blue, Gansey and their friends are some of the most complex and intriguing characters I have ever stumbled upon. If you’re looking for mystery, a little romance, and a very well-researched and thoroughly detailed mythical adventure, this is the book for you! Blue Sargent is the black sheep of her family; it seems that everyone else has an active psychic gift but herself. When assisting her clairvoyant aunt in taking down the names of the townspeople who would die within the next year, Blue is shocked to see a figure in the cemetery; until she discovers what it means. By being able to see this boy, it marks him as her true love…and someone she would help to die. Enter the “Raven Boys,” students at the local all-male prep school; Gansey, the boy from a wealthy family who seeks adventure to make a name for himself; Adam, the scholarship student; Ronan, the fierce and brooding muscle; and Noah, the waif-like boy who says little but sees much. Within no time, Blue finds herself entwined in Gansey’s quest to find the legendary Raven King. Full of Welsh mythology and heart-wrenching twists, this book is sure to leave you begging for more…so good thing it’s part of a series!

For A Fun, Quick Read: Castration Celebration by Jake Wizner

If you’re looking to laugh your ass off, here’s your read! Meet Olivia, the aspiring playwright; after walking in on her dad fooling around with a grad student, she becomes bitter and leans very much toward the life of a second-wave feminist. While attending an arts summer camp at Yale University, she decides to write a musical: Castration Celebration. Enter Max: an attractive aspiring actor who always seems to have the right line for every situation. With their zany camp roommates, Olivia and Max funnel their experiences into their work…and end up in a place that neither would ever have expected. Filled with witty banter and occasionally abrasive humor, this book isn’t for the faint-hearted; but if you have an open mind and a desire to laugh out loud, this is the book for you!

Whether you choose one of these or find abook of your own, we here at HC Boise State wish you all the best this summer; crush your finals, and have a little fun in the sun for us!
