Former model Rebecca Romijn had a lot to say about Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight. Romijn asserted that she, as well as many others in the fashion world, don’t necessarily believe that Jenner and Hadid earned their places at the top of the modeling world. She explains that it has become a trend to hire girls for their popularity on social media above all else. “It is frustrating. I know a lot of people—legitimate fashion people—can’t stand it.” Without ratting anyone out, she revealed that they “hate it that these, you know, social media stars are now the supermodels in fashion. They are not true supermodels.”
She also shed some light on the loss of individuality in many high fashion magazines, specifically Vogue. Romijn is especially disappointed that they seem to be following the trend of hiring social media stars. “I have always looked to Vogue magazine to lead the way, not be a follower. I rely on Vogue to set the standard, not follow what everybody else is doing.”
After her comments circulated the internet earlier today, Romijn released this statement via Twitter:
hey @kendalljenner @gigihadid don’t believe the #clickbait. Never talked smack about you. Both amazing & beautiful pic.twitter.com/4WFSVLgRNC

While we do believe the media often misconstrues what celebs say in interviews, Romijn’s quotes seem pretty straightforward. As we’ve seen a million times before, though, we’ll likely never know the whole story behind this one.
