An Open Letter to Anyone Who Feels “Less”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNCW chapter.

Humans are amazing.

We have walked on the moon, given limbs to those who have lost them, and developed the technology that is allowing you to read this on a tiny, hand-held computer.

As “big” as those accomplishments seem, we also have to remember to appreciate and be grateful for the things that seem smaller. When you’re feeling low and you get out of bed anyway, that’s a big deal. Maybe you just walked to class instead of stepping onto the moon, but you did it!

If someone makes you feel like your accomplishments cannot be equated to the moon landing, and you end that toxic relationship: you are amazing. If talking to strangers makes you anxious, but you were calm when you ordered your coffee today: snaps to you. If someone made you feel like you don’t deserve happiness, but you smile anyway because you know you deserve the world: you are unstoppable.

It’s hard when you’re in college trying to figure out what to do with your future and you’re not even sure what you’re doing with your present. You might change your major seven times, you might transfer to a different university, you might decide college isn’t for you at all.

No matter what you decide, know that you are enough. You are so “enough” that some people won’t be able to handle it, and it’s okay to let those people go. You are amazing, you are unstoppable, and you deserve nothing less than to be surrounded by people who bring light into your life.
