10 Things to do Outdoors in La Crosse

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UW Lax chapter.

Now that the weather is nice here in La Crosse, I can’t help but find any and every excuse to go and spend time outside! La Crosse is always so beautiful but is especially beautiful during the summer I think! There always seems to be something to do here in La Crosse when the weather is warm. I can’t wait to spend these next few weeks outside, exploring LAX before my friends and I go our separate ways for the summer. Whether it be just laying out on a blanket outside or rollerblading around Riverside, I always find a way to be outside. Now that I’ve been able to experience my first spring/summer weather in La Crosse, it has made me realize how happy I am that I chose UW Lax.

1. Hiking—I’ve gone hiking plenty of times during the fall and during the winter, but now that the weather is nicer and the sun is out longer I can appreciate it more. Hike the bluff and watch the sunset from the top or go on a early bluff hike and check out the sun rise.

2. Enjoy some ice cream and go for a walk—Try out the Pearl or The Great River Popcorn Company, either have AMAZING ice cream, and then enjoy it with a walk around the beautiful area of down town La Crosse, including the River Side Park.

3. Try a new restaurant and sit outside—There are so many cool and unique restaurants down town that I don’t know where I am going to find the time and especially the money to try them all. Grab some friends and head down town and try out a restaurant you’ve never tried and make sure you take advantage of the warm weather by sitting outside!

4. Biking/ Rollerblading downtown—I am and will always be such an advocator of rollerblading. It’s a good work out and a good way of transportation. There’s nothing I love more than rollerblading around the city with my friends.

5. Set up a blanket outside—If you don’t have the time to go on an adventure in the bluffs or down town, just grab a blanket and lay outside! It’s the perfect way to get some home work done, while also get your tan on.

6. Go to Pettibone Park—Make it a day trip with your friends on a Saturday afternoon to go to Pettibone. It’s a fun way to spend time with all your friends while getting some sun and just a good way to enjoy the day.

7. Cook Out—Grab your closest friends and make it a pot luck! Have each friend bring different cook out food items and have the perfect cook out.

8.  Baseball Game—Support our UW Lax baseball team by going and cheering on the boys during one of their games!

9. Play Volleyball or basketball—There are so many activities to do outside on campus, including volleyball and basketball courts that are scattered around campus.

10.  Rent Canoes at the Rec—There is so much that the rec offers to students, including a bunch of different sports equipment that you can rent. I will definitely be taking advantage of this very soon!
