One of the newest additions to the Helsinki café and restaurant scene is The Mess which opened earlier this year on Pieni Roobertinkatu 9. Housed in the premises of the Mothership of Work collective, the Mess serves everything from oatmeal and smoothies for breakfast to a relaxing glass of wine in the evening.
To treat myself at the end of a busy week, I headed to The Mess one Friday to indulge in a little everyday luxury. The green smoothie, cappuccino and salmon and avocado sandwich I had were delicious but The Mess’ abundant-looking porridge bar shouldn’t be overlooked either.
With an urban and hipstery twist, The Mess is a must for anyone who adores the urban coffee house culture with its mix of work and play. Spacey and light, it’s a good place for working or studying. (Actually, here it’s even encouraged, so no one will frown upon you if you bring your laptop with you!)
The Mess prides itself on being like ‘someone’s home’ and the homey and informal atmosphere is accompanied by friendly service and not-too-expensive prices.
