An Open Letter To My Freshman Roommate

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

Most people meet us and think we were set up by our siblings who are both current students at WashU. But that’s not the actual story. We were set up last year, as many roommates are, through a friend. But not just any friend. It was my best friend from home and your best friend from camp. We figured from our mutual love for our mutual friend we would probably love each other. And TG we did because otherwise that would have been really awkward when she visited. We never had a long awkward phase, and had our first true connection through a pillow talk – about a topic you must remember or this friendship is over.  After the first week, there was no separating us (our siblings can attest to that). Our awkward first parties together were really not that fun even though we acted like they were, but I am so glad we had each other to cling to. I can’t put into words how much you helped in making my transition to college a smooth and easy one. Thanks for the cuddles in our makeshift king size bed and the LOL’s about literally nothing. Will miss you next year when there’s a wall between our beds.
