10 Thoughts Every Graduating Senior Has Spring Quarter

Nothing beats Spring Quarter at UCSD. With SunGod, sunny days, and the promise of summer break right around the corner, many students would say that although spring is their favorite quarter, it is also their busiest. Everybody seems to be doing everything, there are events each week but most of all, a new graduating class gets to walk the stage by June. Here are some thoughts that are running through every senior’s mind come spring.

1. Questions how we have only three months (or less) left until graduation

How did time fly so fast? Was it not just Christmas last month? You mean I have to start buying my graduation cap and gown and take all those cool graduation photos soon? #notprepared

2. MUST. COMPLETE. BUCKET LIST.

Whether you’re staying in SD or moving right after the calendar hits June 13th, it’s safe to say that there’s a couple of things you’ve been wanting to accomplish. Now is the time to go to Potato Chip Rock, try surfing, see Falling Star, and much more! Don’t wait any longer.

3. Hang out with all the friends!

With friends leaving San Diego to go back home, go to grad school, or even those that are staying, there’s never going to be another moment where you are all together in one place because of college. Take the time to reach out and actually follow through with your plans to get together.

4. Photograph everything

Don’t be afraid to be that person asking random strangers to take a photo of you and your adventures! You are going to want to look back and remember the last couple of months before college ended. After all, if Kylie can do it, so can you.

5. Now would probably be a good time to update my resume…

If this does not apply to you then CONGRATS, you’re already ahead of about 90% of us. Go visit the Career Services Center or make an appointment with them online but just DO IT. Your future self will thank you dearly.

6. Wakes up in the middle of the night after a bad dream of being unemployed after graduation

Nothing is ever as scary as your nightmare, remember that. The subconscious mind creates some real scary images so just relax and keep on applying to jobs like the champ you are to avoid more of these.

7. Questions how people survive out there in the “real world”

But actually though, has anyone figured out a winning formula and would like to share?

8. Mentally spits every time someone asks what their post-graduation plans are

NO. NO. NO. And no. From your relatives to friends, to new people you meet, it seems that as soon as the words “senior” come out of your mouth, everybody wants to know your business. For this one, it’s okay to have a pre-formulated response.

9. Goes out to every event possible

Taco Tuesday, Wine Wednesday, Thirsty Thursday. Post-college may not have the free time (read: energy) to actually go out anymore. Decide to off grandma status until September and embrace the freshman you that you once were (except you’re over 21 now).

10. Actually goes to the beach

We go to school in the beautiful city of La Jolla but I bet you have not been to the shore since Meet the Beach. That’s right, I called you out so go forth and enjoy the beauty of our ocean for the remaining time you have left. Come June, you’ll have a sun-kissed tan and will look perfectly bronze for those photos!
