To make sure you have the best possible Spree Day, there are definitely things to do and things to avoid. Here is a complete list of the do’s and don’ts of Spree Day from Clarkies who have been through it before and know the ropes!
Do’s
If you live in a dorm, do be prepared to be rudely awakened early in the morning by seniors. It’s a tradition and you can’t avoid, so just accept it or find some earplugs.
Do get in line as early as you can. The sooner you can get your bracelet, the sooner the fun begins! Standing in the wind tunnel between The AC and Wright is no fun, especially when you’re at the back of the line.
Do have the schedule of events on hand at all times. This will ensure that you get to enjoy the full Spree Day experience and plan out your day around your favorite events.
Do plan to take a nap at some point during the day. You’ll be up early and want to stay out late, so you’ll need all the energy you can get. There are usually some awesome food trucks that come in the evening, so you’ll want to be up in time for those! Not to mention the ice cream social that happens at night as well.
Do be respectful of all the people that are working to make Spree Day successful. This includes dining services, the people at the registration table, volunteers, photographers, campus police, food truck vendors and more. Make sure to thank these people who work so hard to make it happen!
Don’ts
Don’t go too crazy early in the morning. You’ll regret it later in the day when you can barely function and miss out on the rest of the fun activities. Pacing yourself is key!
Don’t expect to get the correct size in a t-shirt. There will probably only be larges and extra larges towards the end of registration.
Don’t wear nice clothing if you’re planning to participate in some of the messier events like Jell-O wrestling or color wars.
Don’t put off doing your homework for the rest of the week. You’ll have zero motivation (or competence) to do any work that day, so just push through and get it done beforehand.
Don’t go overboard. Most of the events take place on campus, and you never know what professors or administrators you might see around.
Most importantly, enjoy a safe and fun Spree Day!
