This past Saturday, I was honored to be both an attendant and speaker at Her Conference: High School.
Upon arriving to Tufts University, where the conference took place, I got to enjoy a delicious breakfast catered by Pinkberry—Greek yogurt or oatmeal, topped with your choice of anything from fresh fruit to crushed Oreos.
After the opening ceremony, which I missed due to an incorrectly calculated Uber ride length, it was time for the panels to start. During each time slot, there were two to three panels in which the high school ladies had to choose from. I was speaking during the first time slot on a panel about maintaining mental, physical, and emotional health in college. I was joined by three lovely ladies: a junior from Northeastern University, a senior from University of New Hampshire, and the founder of The Enliven Project.
The panels lasted for 45 minutes. For the first 30 minutes, an interviewer asked us a bunch of questions dealing with health. We talked about things that cause us stress, how we de-stress, how we deal with schoolwork, what resources are available on campus to help with emotional health, ways to be safe with your friends, and much more. The final 15 minutes were designated for the high school girls to ask any questions that they had before it would be their turn to experience the college lifestyle! I really enjoyed talking and opening up about my experiences in college. Looking back, I hope I was able to make some girls feel more at ease about transiting into school and act as a resource, in case they need any help!
(How cute are these mason jars?!)
After my panel, other students had the opportunity to listen to talks about finding the right college, adjusting to college academics, balancing money, study abroad, and much more.
All in all, Her Conference: High School was truly a great experience. It was wonderful to attend as a speaker and discuss topics that I am passionate about and meet others who share the same interests as I do. If you are a college student, I would definitely recommend speaking on a panel, and if you a high school student, I highly recommend attending. It is the perfect way to listen to real and genuine experiences from young women who were in your position not too long ago! I mean… the free catered Chipotle and goody bags were pretty awesome as well. :)
