You know how in the movies there is that one person everyone knows and loves? That is Juan to New Paltz. If you don’t know him personally, you know of him. He is the type of person that knows exactly how to cheer you up and make your day. He is the life of the party, and I thought it was only right to let him tell his story.
Name: Juan Camilo Minotta
Year: Senior
Hometown: Bay Shore, Long Island
Major: Double major in Communications and Spanish
Relationship: Single and ready to mingle
Clubs: New Paltz Rugby Football Club
What is your favorite thing about New Paltz?
ME… just kidding… definitely P&Gs. It’s very hard to choose, I like a lot of things about New Paltz. I just hate that it’s hilly.
Is there anything left on your New Paltz bucket list that you want to accomplish before you graduate?
Well, luckily I broke that striped car thing three times in one week before they decided to videotape it (you all know about the orange and blue wooden traffic gates that are always broken). I don’t know, I basically have done almost everything. It’s been four years, I’ve been a busy bee.
What do you want to do after you graduate?
Cry… no I want to move away to somewhere far. I have always thought about teaching English in a Spanish speaking country. Even though the serious part of life starts, there can still be somewhat of an adventure.
How would your friends describe you?
Crazy. They would definitely say I am energetic and charismatic… to put it lightly. I guess they would think of me as a nice person sometimes, but definitely blunt. Incredibly blunt, even when sometimes I shouldn’t be.
Who inspires you and why?
You know sometimes I look in the mirror and I know I am ready for the day. But, actually someone who inspires me is Julie Taylor (an amazing Communications professor here at SUNY New Paltz), she is the happiest person and is so passionate about what she does. I would love to love what I do just like her.
So you play rugby… how would you describe rugby to someone who doesn’t play sports?
It is part soccer, part wrestling and part cheerleading… oh and part football. It is definitely not an easy sport to understand. It took me over a semester to understand what the hell I was doing… but I would describe it as fun. I would encourage everyone to join.
If you were stranded on an island what three things would you want to have with you?
Me, myself and I. Okay, in all seriousness I guess a book, since there is no electricity on this island. Or, I would bring three genies… so that would make nine wishes.
What would be one of your wishes?
I would wish for company on the island… specifically attractive servants.
