Name: Mohammed Zaki
Year and Program: Second Year Biological Sciences
Hometown: Windsor, ON
Why did you choose your program?
To be honest, I don’t know. I thought I liked biology. Originally I hated it. I went into it in university. Don’t know how I’m feeling about it right now.
Â
What are your future goals and ambitions?
Well, the thing with that is – because, again, I don’t know how I’m feeling about biology – my future goals and ambitions… they’re changing. So currently, I don’t really know. I had an idea about what I wanted to do. I was thinking, “Okay, I’m gonna go to this university thing, give it the ol’ college trial, try to get into med school and then become a coroner.” Didn’t realize I needed a med school thing to be a coroner, and coroner’s what I decided on, so I was like, “Yea, whatever, okay medical school is just another hurdle I have to leap over and I’ll do it when I get there.” But now I’m thinking that’s a bad idea. Now I’m thinking I should do something else. Something psychology related. I’m liking psychology.

So recently you’ve been well known on your Facebook for your meme-ing. Can you explain your new interest in the memes?
This interest, it isn’t a new one. I just never really shared them. I never really put myself out there as a share person. But I thought to myself one day, “Hey, why don’t I share the memes? Why don’t I start giving myself likes by sharing these really really bad memes to everyone on my Facebook?” I’m even thinking of just actually making a page, but I might wait until my own Facebook goes big.
Is there any motivation behind sharing the memes?
No, actually. I see them, they make me laugh, so I share them. I think other people with similar comedy styles as my own would see the memes, and they would laugh as well.
Â
Now, a lot of the memes you share are funny, but there are some that are more serious and that play on dark humour. Are you trying to get at some point with these?
No there’s no point. I find the thing, like the first thing that I (saw) of just these I-wanna-kill-myself or everything-sucks/everybody-sucks memes and I stuck with it. I’ve been going with it. And that’s why I’ve been choosing those memes, because they’re the first ones to appear before me. And you’ll never catch me sharing a Tumblr poster. I’m not that much of a shit poster. I’m not a Facebook Tumblr sharer. That’s not me. I don’t do that. So the only other option, on Facebook at least, are the really bad, cringe-worthy, Meme Lord-level memes. And that’s what I had to go with. A pumpkin with eight filters over it is funnier than anything you could ever see on Tumblr in my opinion.
Today you shared a meme from the Facebook page “Nihilist Memes”. Would you consider yourself a Nihilist?
No, because I don’t know what that word means.
Â
Nihilism is defined as the rejection of all religious and moral principles, often in the belief that life is meaningless. Would you now consider yourself a Nihilist?
Life is meaningless. Life does not have a point. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do in your life because it’s gonna come to an end anyways. So just live it up and do you. That’s my view. If that makes me a Nihilist, I’m a Nihilist.
