As a campus rep and intern for Revelry, proud member of the greek sorority Zeta Tau Alpha and business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi AND member of the Pink Street Team on campus, she has certainly had an eventful freshmen year here at ISU. Not only is she involved, but she already holds leadership positions as her sorority’s Sunshine Chair and Membership Enrichment Chair and as Vice President of Communications for her Alpha Kappa Psi pledge class.
Now I know what you’re thinking, when does she have time to eat or even sleep? Well, some how… she does it all. Stephanie loves to hangout with friends, play sports, and go on adventures. She loves anything dipped in chocolate and I mean what girl doesn’t?
Stephanie is a business marketing major too. Her academics are always a priority, so we know she’s got her head on straight. Her big hair matches her equally big personality. The second someone meets her, they laugh at her hilarious, outgoing, and talkative personality. Bottom line: she’s a friend everyone needs to have around.
Her favorite quote says it all: “Girls compete with each other while women empower one another.”
When I met up with Stephanie I asked her a few questions:
HC ISU:What are you passionate about?
SK: I’m passionate about making others happy, encouraging other’s to follow their dreams, and always being better than I was yesterday.
HC ISU: How has your year been?
SK: It’s been something I would have never thought of. I’ve learned a lot of different things and about mental health and how it always comes before school or any other activity.
HC ISU: How so?
SK: It’s been surprising to be a leader and be as involved as I am in school. It’s especially crazy meeting friends that I’ll be able to have for the rest of my life and just are as driven and focused as I am.
HC ISU: Tell me about your experience in Zeta Tau Alpha and AKPSI?
SK: It’s so much more than the Greek life stereotypes present it to be, knowing that there’s people who have my back and share my goals is amazing. They push me to be better.
HC ISU: Do you plan to stay as involved as you are in the future?
SK: Oh yeah, definitely. I want to continue because I truly want to make a difference and make them the best they can be.
HC ISU: What do you like most about Illinois State University?
SK: I love that it’s a big campus with a small feel. It’s a great school always with an opportunity to become involved and the teachers are always willing to help.
HC ISU: Do you have any future goals?
SK: One of my biggest goals has been to plan a sexual harassment walk. I hope to achieve it within the next couple of years. I want to do this because I feel our campus needs it and I want to advocate for this issue. I know so many who have struggled with it and it changes lives. I’ve always wanted to take a step forward and make a change. I can help and that’s what I’m good at.
HC ISU: What’s your funniest moment here at ISU?
SK: One time I was running up the Watty stairs and face planted.
(At this point, we both laughed because we agreed everyone’s had their fair share of falling on those steps.)
HC ISU: To end on good note, what are your inspirations for being such an advocate for change?
SK: I grew up watching Ellen Degeneres and seeing her change so many lives has really influenced me to help others. I am there for others and always have a helping hand.
There you have it ISU. The amazing and wonderful Stephanie Khoury. The next time you walk the quad, keep your eyes peeled for the curly headed blond walking with a confidence and blue water bottle to her next meeting.
