In honor of the new school year, I figured teaching the new students some Jackson Street smarts was a good idea.
-
Always have a buddy! If you’re walking down Jackson Street alone at midnight, then you probably made a bad decision. Yeah you might say “We’re only in York” but that’s just the thing WE’RE IN YORK! It’s not exactly the safest place at all times.
-
But if you HAVE to walk alone, carry pepper spray. Also know where you’re going! Don’t just wander the streets. And on that note….
-
Don’t walk in huge groups either.A group of about three to four people is all you need. Walking in a huge group just makes you stick out.
-
Walk on the sidewalks.Alleys are not your best idea. If something does happen to you, it’s more likely someone will see it happening and be able to help you.
-
Don’t leave your cup unattended. This is just common sense but I figured it’s always good to remind people. You never know who is at a party you are attending and/or what drugs someone might try to slip into your drink. So along the same lines, don’t take a drink from anyone you don’t know or anyone you don’t trust.
-
Don’t carry anything valuable on you.Again, totally common sense but lets be honest, there are some not so smart people out there.
-
Carry your own bag.Don’t rely on your friends to carry your stuff, you don’t know if they will end up leaving you without your knowledge.
-
Charge your phone before you go out.Better to be safe then sorry, I always say!!
So next time you head out to Jackson, try to stay safe and you will survive!
